Just When Everything Seemed Lost

Ralph found his way back to Castle Rock at night. Eric and I were on watch as we had been forced to become part of the tribe we now looked like one of the tribe. I was glad to see Ralph, but also afraid that we might be caught by Roger, especially after what he did to Piggy. Shivers ran down my spine just at the mere thought of it.

We told Ralph that he had to go; they would hurt us if they found out. We told Ralph that he wasn’t safe and that they were planning on hunting him in the morning. He offered to take us with him, but we couldn’t Roger would hurt us. We gave him a spear and meat, he couldn’t go starved and unarmed, it was the least we could do to protect him. We urged Ralph to go when we heard the steps behind us. Roger was approaching and his glare was almost as feared as the thought of the beast. We argued with him when he reached us, but he hurt us.

In the morning we were tortured until we told him were Ralph was hiding. Thankfully Ralph was awake now and was able to escape. Boulders were thrown and fire was set. We went with the hunting party that went after Ralph, Eric and I started to run and hope for Ralph not to be hurt.

Littluns ran around the scar screaming because of the fire that now was reaching the fruit trees. Jack and Roger had set fire and now it was consuming the whole island. Ralph darted into the beach and then stopped. The hunters charged and also came into a halt. Before Ralph, there stood and officer and he said that he had seen our smoke. They had a ship and they were going to take us home. The littluns started crying and so did everyone, the overwhelming relief brought tears to our eyes.  This horrible nightmare was over, and we were going to go home now. We were safe and we had lived through this. We were going back home.

His Fate Delivered By a Boulder

We decided to visit Jack’s tribe at Castle Rock the next morning. Ralph said that we were to take spears with us because it could get violent. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Sam grip the spear as tightly as I did. We were scared and unable to hide it. They were stronger and they outnumbered us, if in the worst case it came to a fight, we were going to lose.

Piggy relied on us to remain on balance, without his specs he was unable to see. Jack wasn’t there when we arrived to Castle Rock, but he arrived moments later with a dead sow in hand. Eric and I turned on cue and stood between Jack and Ralph I was waiting for the worst. Instantly Ralph and Jack started arguing. Jack ordered for his tribe to tie us and we were helpless against all of them. We couldn’t event fight. Piggy remained safely on his knees, fear spread across his have and he relied on his sense or hearing completely to make out of what was happening.

Than Ralph and Jack started fighting using the spears as weapons, they weren’t aiming for lethal points; they used them as if they were swords. Piggy them yelled for them to stop, he said that he had the conch so he had the right to speak, but when he started a boulder was pushed by Roger and hit Piggy, smashing both the conch and him on one blow. We knew what they were capable of and I couldn’t help to have the astonishing fear spread over my system. Ralph was now enraged and he started fighting with Jack again. Jack said that this happened because we were foolish enough to come to this side of the island. Then he turned to us and said that we were now going to be part of his tribe. We tried to refuse, but our efforts were useless and we were forced to come into Castle Rock with them and leave Ralph alone.

Shadows in the Night

The next morning we started by collecting wood. Our wary expressions were the remains of the last night’s scene; the grief was there and couldn’t be ignored. Ralph spoke with a voice filled with sorrow as he commented that what happened last night had been a murder. Piggy was in denial, he said that Simon had brought it on himself, that it was something that could have been avoided is Simon hadn’t been wondering around the forest at night. I think that maybe he didn’t want to believe that the boys were capable of such malicious acts; sadly we knew deep inside that they were.

The fire was our priority and we tried to keep it going as well as we could. At night we were taking by surprise by and ambush of the masked savages, Sam got mixed up in between the darkness, but I managed to hit one of them and defend myself and got a lose tooth, Ralph smashed a mask pretty good before the savages fled and Piggy lost his glasses. We thought that they came for the conch, but Jack instead left with triumph and dangling the specs on one of his dirty hands.

When we thought that things couldn’t get any worse, it appears that it can. We didn’t have fire now, we had a broken tribe and one was now lifeless marble floating into the vast sea. Hopeless as we were, we were in desperate need for a plan.

Crimson Sand

Again we were helpless against the meat, so we went to Jack’s party, only for the meat. Ralph and Piggy joined us later, but they were welcomed by Jack with an eerie authority. Ralph and Jack got into another argument. Jack was about to become chief for his new tribe and evidently it was stronger. Ralph fought to regain his power, but it was useless. The boys had become savage and now hid behind those masks.

Eric and I were once again speechless; there is nothing that could have gotten between them. We were going to pick Ralph, but the fierce savages stood with authority. Suddenly Jack ordered them to do their chant and dance. The overpowering urge to join them was irresistible, soon enough we were dancing with them in their circle. Piggy and Ralph stood outside the ring and watched. As the violent chant took place, something crawled out of the forest and our first reaction was to think that it was the dreaded beast. The masked hunters flung themselves at the creature, not having time to notice that the poor creature wasn’t the beast, it was Simon.

We were completely unable to break through the huddle that enclosed around Simon and we were left to watch mortified the morbid scene. Simon struggled but the hunters wouldn’t let him break free, the only sound was the tearing and clawing coming from the fight. Then rain poured from the skies and washed over the still corpse, it washed over the crimson sand as everyone to find cover from the rain.

R.S.V.P for This

The hunters left with but we remained with Ralph, Piggy and Simon. All the others were nowhere to be found. If they didn’t appear soon the shifts for the fire would be tedious and things around here would be changed. Piggy complained about order being lost and we started to worry.

Suddenly as we were feeding the fire, a stampede of savages stole half burnt branches of fire and fled back. Only a couple of them remained and Jack was with them. We were hidden behind a palm tree because the thought that it could have been the beast and not them was the thing we most worried about. Jack invited us to the feast they were having tonight and said that if we wanted, he might consider letting us join his tribe, but we didn’t want to, what could be the consequences of such actions? We weren’t willing to find out.

The Apperance of the Beast

Sam and I were keeping the fire at night. The fire wasn’t enough to keep us warm, but we tried to keep it up, careful to not burn the whole lot. Sam and I were tired we only had a few minutes until sleep overpowered us, but then I saw something coming toward us from the woods. Then I saw it, the beast was there…

I screamed Sam’s name hysterically. A rush of adrenaline and fear made my heart beat faster and it might have skipped a beat or two. Sam and I yelled as we ran back to the platform, the beast was behind us and it nearly grabbed me. I nearly got us.

We woke up Ralph and an assembly was called we told the story of the attack, finishing each other’s sentences and panting on our breaks. Ralph said that this was a hunter’s job and he asked if there was any place jack hadn’t gone. The only places left to check was were the rocks piled up.  I was terrified and I also saw it in my brother’s eyes, that thing could be up there. We went on the morning, spears ready. The boys that were hunters and Ralph went up; the rest remained at the base. The beast wasn’t up there; I was disappointed of not getting rid of the beast, but most of all grateful for not having to face it.

When Rules Are All That's Left

A meeting was called and Ralph looked restless. That made everyone uneasy. I couldn’t help, but worry something was bothering him and I knew it was big.

He was worrying about the fire, the lack of shelters, the beast, and how some boys gave more importance to the hunt. Soon enough Jack was up there next to him arguing because from where he saw it, he had made everyone a favor by bringing meat. I looked at them in shock and my mouth hung open as well, Eric was mirror to me beside me.

Jack was breaking the rules; no one was supposed to talk without conch and you never interrupt the chief. Jack didn’t care and Ralph shouted that rules were all we had. We knew he was right, but Jack yelled and left. The platform remained silent for a while and then everyone dispersed. The only ones left were Simon, Piggy and Ralph.

The Aftermath of a Mistake

After the blowout, the air between Ralph and Jack was noticeably different. Ralph now turned to Piggy. Jack had the pig and Sam and I yearned for the meat, so we followed Jack and helped him start the fire. We screwed meat on branches and held them to the hungry flames, our mouths dribbled with the scent.

Ralph soon showed up with Piggy and meat was offered to them, they to yearn for the meat. Piggy was at first left in doubt because Jack stated that he didn’t take part on the hunt either, but still got meat. Simon blushed while we all stared at the scene with mouths agape. Simon gave his piece to Piggy; another piece was given to Simon by the now raging Jack.

Jack exploded; there was something about Jack that scares me, the overpowering crave of authority floats around him and his words and looks prove to you that he’s important, but I know he wouldn’t be a good chief, but there’s no doubt he’s dangerous.

After everyone ate, we did our chant and Maurice played the pig, the rest were hunters. At first it seemed a game, but soon enough I got the feeling it was becoming too real.

The Power of a Meal

We came back carrying the corpse of the pig and chanting, “Kill the pig, cut her throat, spill her blood.” I guess we were carried away by the instinct of killing in the hunt. It had been such a long time since we’ve had eaten meat. My mouth watered as we imagined the taste of the craved meat and I felt the pain of hunger.

Ralph wasn’t as happy as we were. He started yelling about the fire being dead. Eric and I looked down at our feet, the excitement now gone and faded. We were supposed to have been watching the fire. Ralph was furious, he was yelling at Jack about him only caring about the pig.

That fact was true, but Jack didn’t protest or show any anger and that caught me of guard because it wasn’t what I was expecting, the pig was all that mattered to him. Jack apologized, but I knew it wasn’t sincere his tone was light and mocking. The damage was done; the fire was dead and an opportunity of rescue might have gone by.

Masks and a Dash of Pink

Jack painted our faces; he said that it would help hunt the pig; that’s all he worries about. Sam and I are never apart, so it’s become a habit for everyone to refer to us as one and indeed we have become more attached.
We were supposed to have been watching the fire, but Jack showed up, we had to obey him because we had been with him the longest. We couldn’t Jack. Filled with guilt as we were, we followed him, tough we knew Ralph happy we went and shame walked with us.

We moved through the forest looking for a chance to strike. Jack was different since he painted his face. His movement was sure and quick, not backing out. We did the same as him, the mask made you feel powerful as if someone else and we relied on our instincts to hunt. Then we saw a dash of pink run by. Jack crouched and we gripped our spear tightly. Jack lead the attack after a split second; blood spilled, flesh was ripped and squealing traveled through the trees as adrenaline cursed through our veins as we worked and the fighting and squealing all came from the pig.

To Do List

At the assembly, when the beast comes to be a topic of conversation, Ralph and Jack try to keep the littluns calm; they can’t afford to have them screaming around the scar. Jack assures that if there is any beast he’ll kill it. Still when we looked at the eyes of the big ones we saw the unmasked fear. I felt it too, the doubt, what if there was something.

Jack, us, and the other boys from the choir are hunters now. He’s determined to kill a pig, he couldn’t kill one the first time, but he says that the next time it won’t get away. No one dares to contradict him…

Ralph started to complain about no one helping him build the shelters. At first everyone helped, but then everyone started to drift away from work. He’s the one who said we were to have fun, and it’s true we didn’t help and it was something we all felt guilty about. Simon was the only one to stick with Ralph, he’s always helpful. When I was walking with Eric we saw him give the littluns the best pieces of fruits they couldn’t reach from the trees. It was something we would never think about doing and we accepted it, but Simon is different because he's from  a pure nature.

Piggy and Ralph have become better friends and the bond between him and Ralph was struggling. I don’t know if anyone else noticed, but I did and the tension was something to worry about. They were beginning to disagree on everything. My brother and I have agreed that he is one to watch out for. He’s intimidating presence and he is the head hunter; that makes him important anyway.

Don't Play With Fire

Ralph said that we needed fire to be rescued; he must know this because after all he’s the chief. We went up to the mountain and piled up anything we could find; leaves, branches and tree bark were put into the mix. Everyone contributed to the project, even the young ones were happy to help. Ralph took Piggy’s spectacles and aimed it to the sun; its reflection was enough to light the fire.

Earlier, a boy with a birthmark that spread across his face warned us about a beast lurking around the island. I remember seeing his as we climbed the mountain to start the fire, but after the fire went out of control, nobody could find him. I asked Sam if he saw him; however between the lashing fire and running, the boy was lost.

So Much For Safety

Today something unexpected happened, while we were on the plane—that was supposed to guide us to safety as mum said—we made a forceful landing on a deserted island. There were no grownups and the pilot was nowhere to be found. The only passengers aboard the plane were boys the eldest boys where twelve. The only ones I knew where the boys from the choir and my win brother, Eric. Eric and I agreed that we would record the events occurring on the island while we are here.

After the airplane crashed, we found the other boys when we followed a sound—which we later found out was a conch being blown—into a platform. We introduced ourselves and we met a faired haired boy named Ralph. Moments later Ralph became chief for our little tribe—all the boys took a vote and he won. We also met Piggy; a boy who is gets picked on by a raid-head named Jack because he’s fat.

Piggy seems to be smart; he was trying to get all the names of the boys down. No one ever listens to him though. Plus, Jack is quite a character; he will always cut off Piggy in whatever he is saying. I know that Jack hates Piggy. He’s intimidating and Piggy is terrified of him. Though my brother and I have been so long with Jack there is always a sense of authority around him.

Jack was the leader of our choir and he wasn’t very happy with Ralph being chief, but in the end he succumbed to democracy. Simon also came with us Jack, seconds after we arrived to the platform, Simon blacked out. It wasn’t unusual; it has happened sometimes before when we traveled so we knew what to do. Simon is a very nice boy and he gets along with everyone. When he recovered, him, our chief—Ralph—and Jack went on an expedition to look around the island and see if there were any grownups. Piggy wanted to go with them, but his request was denied and Jack hurled more offensive comments at him.

We have some sort of order in our first day on the island; I think it could work like this, but what to do if it doesn’t? I’m terrified to think that it could get out of control, but I and Eric trust Ralph and he said that we were here to have fun. Ralph is the chief; he’ll know what to do if anything happens. We’ll know in the morning.
