Ralph found his way back to Castle Rock at night. Eric and I were on watch as we had been forced to become part of the tribe we now looked like one of the tribe. I was glad to see Ralph, but also afraid that we might be caught by Roger, especially after what he did to Piggy. Shivers ran down my spine just at the mere thought of it.
We told Ralph that he had to go; they would hurt us if they found out. We told Ralph that he wasn’t safe and that they were planning on hunting him in the morning. He offered to take us with him, but we couldn’t Roger would hurt us. We gave him a spear and meat, he couldn’t go starved and unarmed, it was the least we could do to protect him. We urged Ralph to go when we heard the steps behind us. Roger was approaching and his glare was almost as feared as the thought of the beast. We argued with him when he reached us, but he hurt us.
Littluns ran around the scar screaming because of the fire that now was reaching the fruit trees. Jack and Roger had set fire and now it was consuming the whole island. Ralph darted into the beach and then stopped. The hunters charged and also came into a halt. Before Ralph, there stood and officer and he said that he had seen our smoke. They had a ship and they were going to take us home. The littluns started crying and so did everyone, the overwhelming relief brought tears to our eyes. This horrible nightmare was over, and we were going to go home now. We were safe and we had lived through this. We were going back home.
