Don't Play With Fire

Ralph said that we needed fire to be rescued; he must know this because after all he’s the chief. We went up to the mountain and piled up anything we could find; leaves, branches and tree bark were put into the mix. Everyone contributed to the project, even the young ones were happy to help. Ralph took Piggy’s spectacles and aimed it to the sun; its reflection was enough to light the fire.

Earlier, a boy with a birthmark that spread across his face warned us about a beast lurking around the island. I remember seeing his as we climbed the mountain to start the fire, but after the fire went out of control, nobody could find him. I asked Sam if he saw him; however between the lashing fire and running, the boy was lost.
